Monday at Our Montessori Preschool

Why We Are a Montessori Preschool

Every Monday, Center Stage Preschool will explore a unique aspect of our Montessori approach. Heather Carboneau, the director here at Center Stage Preschool in Ashburn, is so excited about our school year and wants to share with you why the Montessori approach is important, and why we are a Montessori Preschool.

The Value of Prepared Environments in a Montessori Preschool

A lot of what we do at Center Stage involves prepared environments. This means everything your child touches or reaches for, is considered curriculum. We build upon control of error within this curriculum, meaning that everything is labeled, and everything in the classroom has a home. Everything is accessible to your children, and everything in the classroom is down to their scale. From chairs, to desks, to toilets. We believe children crave order and choice, so we give them the necessary outlets to express those needs. Everyone has a job in their community, just as you woke up today and went to the job you chose. For children, play is their work. Your child here at Center Stage Preschool gets to choose their play, choose their work, and they decide what they will master.

Everyone Brings Something to the Table

Our teachers act as guides, to collect data, show examples, and introduce new concepts to your children. The goal of our Montessori approach is to create an environment of acceptance, and self sufficiency. In a Montessori environment, your child will feel at home, and comfortable. Your child will feel that they are a part of their school community, and they will express that in the world. Interacting with children in our open floor plan, and mixed age group will create a positive learning environment, with an understanding that everyone has something to bring to the table. Check us out next Monday, when we will focus on another exciting element of our Montessori approach curriculum.
